The Macintosh, from Apple Computer, Inc. in the US, appeared in 1984. Its operating system, which used the metaphor of working on a desktop, pioneered the GUI that followed. This book summarizes its design philosophy and implementation for application developers. It is a reprint of the Addison-Wesley Publishers Japan edition (1989), but the content, which concisely explains the advantages and limitations of the GUI from a user-centered perspective, has not faded even after 20 years.
